The Samsung Epic 4G stands out from Galaxy S - its relative Samsung phone for a number of reasons. As compared with Galaxy S, it has a physical keyboard, a front-facing camera. It is the 2nd smart phone to run on Sprint 4G

As we known, there are 3 smart phones with hardware keyboards: the BlackBerry Torch, the Motorola Droid X and now, the Samsung Epic 4G. Which one come with a more outstanding keyboard? Out of all of these phones, we definitely believe that the Epic 4G outweighs the others on the keyboard design. Our experience is that the keys are nicely spaced and comes with a very good design.

If you dislike using the physical keyboard, no worry because in Epic 4G you can find even more options on the touchscreen. It is equipped with TouchWiz keyboard, SWYPE keyboard or the native Android keyboard. The display is very responsive and size is large enough to comfortably type on.

Similar with other Galaxy S phones, the Epic 4G provides a 4 inch Super AMOLED display. The Super AMOLED technology of Samsung is represented by its touch sensors on the display, in contrast with building another layer in the previous old model. Such design brings the thinnest display technology on the market. Super AMOLED technology is so amazing that you must feel and experience it in person. Colors are brushed out of the display, and the animations are so lively and smooth. There are reviewers commented that colors look over saturated, but it does not matter. You can also find the display is doing quite well under bright outdoor light, although the glossy hardware sometimes will reflect glare.

Android 2.1 and TouchWiz 3.0

Android 2.1 with Samsung's own TouchWiz 3.0 user interface is adopted by the Epic 4G. This version of TouchWiz is found to be much better than the previous Samsung Behold II on T-Mobile, which was difficult and slow to navigate.

Though this version shows improvement, there are some familiar issues in TouchWiz 3.0 as we encountered. Although equipped with the 1GHz processor, the phone is found lagged slightly sometimes when we navigate different menus or scroll down certain webpages. We expect there will be a speed boost after upgrade to Android 2.2 - the Froyo.

Similar with HTC, Samsung comes with its own social media aggregator. The Social Hub successfully combines streams from Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter accounts into a single view. This is a useful feature to help you keep track of your networks. Another feature that is worth to mention is the Mini Diary, which lets you create blog entries with photos, weather info, text messages, and more.
